Before you move
Almost every bad move-in traces back to something skipped in this window. The order of work matters more than the effort you put into any single part of it.

GET THE ORDER RIGHT
Snag walk, then pest control and deep cleaning on the empty home, then delivery. Cleaning after the cartons arrive means cleaning around your belongings.

Before, on the empty home. Empty wardrobes, kitchen cabinets and under-sink spaces can be treated properly in about an hour, and nothing of yours has to be moved out. Once the home is furnished, treatment works around your things and you have to empty cupboards anyway.
Yes, and specifically before the cartons come in. A brand-new flat carries grouting dust, paint flecks and laminate residue; a resale flat carries the previous tenant's kitchen grease and bathroom scale. Both take a fraction of the time when the rooms are empty.
One to three days before delivery. Any earlier and dust resettles, particularly if construction is still going on in the block. On the delivery day itself the cleaning crew and the movers get in each other's way.
Water pressure and the supply source, every power point and the MCB board, the geyser and exhaust fans, all window and door locks, seepage marks on ceilings and under sinks, drainage speed in bathrooms, and the condition of existing fittings. Photograph all of it on the day you take the keys, before anything of yours is inside.
Agreement and Khata copies, the association's move-in form and gate pass, a booked service lift slot, the electricity meter reading and BESCOM name transfer, whether water is BWSSB or tanker-supplied, gas connection transfer, an internet installation date, and a working geyser before your first night.
Set up one room the child recognises first: their own bed, familiar bedding, and a few known toys out of the carton. Then a working bathroom, then the kitchen. School bags, uniforms and books travel with you rather than in the truck, because they are needed before the cartons are open.
Two weeks ahead is comfortable. The last weekend of any month is the hardest slot to get anywhere in Bengaluru, because lease cycles put most move-ins there. If you know your possession date, fix the setup date at the same time.
No. Remote setup runs on written access authorisation, a verified handoff from your mover, and photo or video approvals at each stage. It is how most NRI and out-of-city move-ins are handled.
Documents, jewellery, medicines, chargers, keys, one change of clothes per person, basic toiletries, and anything you would need within four hours of arriving. If it would ruin your first night to have it sealed in a carton, it travels with you.
7 DAYS TO THE DAY BEFORE
The week of the move
This is when the plan either becomes specific or stays a hope. Society paperwork, labelling and installation order are decided here, not on the morning.
02Stage 2 of 5 · 8 questions
Split the two halves. Your mover needs you at the origin for a few hours; everything at the destination — cleaning, unpacking, setup, installations — can run on weekdays with authorised access and photo approvals. Most people take half a day, not a week.
By room first, contents second, written on two side faces and the top. A carton stacked three high with the label on the bottom face is functionally unlabelled, and that is what turns a one-day unpack into a two-day sort.
Keep a numbered carton list at the origin and tick it off at delivery before signing anything. Small high-value items travel with you. Photograph the inside of drawers and cupboards before they are emptied, so you know what was there.
Usually 35 to 55 for a professionally packed 2 BHK, plus wardrobe boxes and appliance crates. Local moves packed loosely come in fewer, larger and heavier cartons, and take longer to unpack because nothing can be routed by label.
You or whoever is managing the move for you. Most Bengaluru associations want a move-in form, ID copies for every person entering, vehicle details, and a booked service lift slot, filed at least a day ahead. Turning up without it can cost you the morning.
Assume it might. Builder handovers on the newer corridors move by days fairly often, so keep a few days of flexibility rather than locking the earliest possible date for cleaning, unpacking and internet installation all at once.
Two ways to do it. Either your own packers and movers deliver and we take over at your door, or you add within-city packing and moving to the booking so one team owns both halves — packing at the old home, transport, delivery, then unpacking and setup. The moving half is quoted after a pre-move survey and starts only once you confirm it.
Before the kitchen is unpacked. Chimney, hob, geyser and washing machine fitting needs clear counters and open access, and drilling above shelves that already hold crockery means covering everything again. Wall TV and curtain rods are best done the same day, before decor goes up.
DELIVERY DAY ITSELF
Moving day
On the day, the only useful question is what makes the house livable tonight. Everything else can wait, and trying to finish everything is what leaves nothing finished.
03Stage 3 of 5 · 8 questions
Beds and bedding, then one bathroom, then the kitchen. If those three work, you can live in the house while the rest gets done at a sane pace. Books, decor and wall hangings come last, always — they are the things people start with and regret.
About three days for a full setup: roughly a day for the kitchen, a day for bedrooms and wardrobes, and a day for living areas, storage and a final quality check. A team working only on essentials can make a 2 BHK properly livable within one day.
Aim for function, not finish. Beds assembled and made, one bathroom stocked, and a kitchen that can produce one meal and one round of tea. Everything else stays sealed in labelled cartons stacked in a single room, so the rest of the house looks and feels done.
Stage every carton in the room it belongs to as it comes off the truck, never in the hall. Carrying a carton twice is the single most common wasted hour of a move, and with fifty cartons it is not one hour.
Someone should be, to check the carton count against the list and sign the delivery sheet. It does not have to be you — an authorised person with the inventory list is enough, which is what makes remote move-ins possible.
Photograph it before it is moved, note it on the mover's delivery sheet before you sign, and raise the claim the same day. Signing a clean delivery sheet closes off most claims, regardless of what you find later that evening.
Often yes, if the delivery lands in the morning and the society's service lift slot allows it. An afternoon delivery usually means the unpacking starts the next morning, because nobody does careful kitchen work at 9pm.
As early as your society permits. Across the ORR belt, Sarjapur Road and Whitefield, a vehicle that leaves after 8:30am routinely loses ninety minutes — and that hour and a half comes out of the unpacking day, not the driving day.
THE PART NOBODY PLANS FOR
After the movers leave
This is where most people discover that the move is not over. A mover's contract ends at delivery. What is left is a house full of sealed cartons and a family that needs to sleep in it.

A mover’s contract ends when the cartons are inside your door. Opening, washing, placing, organising and clearing the waste is a separate service.

Yes. Unpacking and move-in setup is a separate category from packing and moving, sold by the room or as a package by home size. Most people only discover it exists on the evening the cartons arrive.
Yes, and it is the most requested single room. A kitchen setup means washing utensils before they are placed, lining shelves, zoning by daily use and reach height, and arranging the pantry so the kitchen works on night one rather than in month two.
A home organiser or an unpacking service. Wardrobe work means unpacking clothes, hanging and folding by category and season, and zoning shelves per person rather than per garment type — which is what stops a shared cupboard collapsing by week three.
About three days for a 2 BHK, and four to five for a large 3 or 4 BHK or a duplex. A brand-new flat takes longer than a resale one, because deep cleaning and pest control have to sit in front of the unpacking.
Get three things working on day one — a made bed, a usable bathroom and a functioning kitchen — and refuse to touch decor until storage is decided. Most people do it in the opposite order, hang the paintings first, and stay unsettled for a month.
Deep clean and pest treat the empty home, verify power, water and plumbing, get the beds and kitchen fully set up, and then bring the family in. Arriving to a finished home instead of a wall of cartons is a materially different experience, particularly with children or elderly parents.
They should leave with whoever unpacks. Flattened cardboard, thermocol and bubble wrap are not accepted with regular BBMP collection, and most Bengaluru societies will not allow them in the basement or the chute. Left alone, packing waste sits on a balcony for weeks.

Yes. A room-by-room handover with photos and a walkthrough of where things went is the final step, together with a punch list of anything still pending. An organised home you cannot navigate is not organised.
Say so during the handover walkthrough and it changes then, which is exactly what the walkthrough is for. Small adjustments after that are handled as follow-up rather than a new booking.

Pricing is by the room or by home size, confirmed on a consultation call. There is no payment before that call.

It moves with inventory volume, floor and lift access at both ends, packing grade, insurance cover and your dates, so it is quoted after a pre-move survey and charged only after you confirm. Home setup packages are different: those are priced by the room or by home size.
Pricing is by the room or by home size, and the figure is confirmed on a consultation call once carton count, home size and room priorities are known. Nothing is paid before that call.
In money, no. In time, almost always. A 2 BHK that a family unpacks across three weekends is done in about three days by a team, surfaces get cleaned before anything is placed on them, and the packing waste leaves the property instead of living on your balcony.
Yes. Room-by-room booking exists for exactly that, and the kitchen is the most common single-room booking by a wide margin. Wardrobes are second.
No. Your mover packs and transports the inventory. We take over at the destination — the part most moving companies leave to you.
Surface cleaning as we go is included: shelves, counters and wardrobe interiors are wiped before anything is placed inside them. Full deep cleaning and pest control are separate add-ons chosen alongside a package, and on an empty home they are worth doing.
